If it’s been a while since you’ve visited this website, you’ll have noticed that we’ve applied the odd lick of paint or two. Gone is the somewhat serious look of the old website.
We’ve also added much more information about what we do and why, as well as a brand new Portfolio section with some examples of our work.
What follows is some of the thinking behind the redesign, the problems we set out to solve, and the goals of the new website. Of course, only our valued site visitors can really say how well we’ve done here. So if you have any feedback, then we’d love to hear from you.
Branding
The first issue to address was the overall branding and logo. When I started the business in 2015, I needed to get something up and running quickly. At the time I just wanted something clean and professional, and I like green. That was it!
Unfortunately, it just didn’t reflect my personality and what we’re about. It was far too serious for one, and was probably more suited to a legal firm.
I wanted the website to reflect both fun and professionalism. The idea of the building blocks was to suggest play and experimentation, and also how websites and apps are designed with a purpose, to grow and build a business. I have a background in mathematics too, so something geometric yet creative made sense. Even the logo has a few missing pixels to suggest the missing pieces required for a successful business, which of course is our job to provide.
Portfolio
The portfolio on the old site was very lacking, and it was hard to add new content. And if something’s hard or awkward to do, then it’s safe to say it probably won’t get done!
This was a core focus of the new site. By extending WordPress with a custom plugin, it’s now quick and easy to add new portfolio items along with screenshots. The custom developed theme then takes care of presenting it.
Better contact forms
Rather than just a generic contact form asking for a name and email address, I wanted something more specific. Each of the WordPress, Websites and Mobile Apps pages include forms which better capture what’s required by the customer in each case. This is an essential part of my process – ask plenty of questions to find out what’s truly needed, so I wanted to get potential clients thinking about this from the very start.
The right information
The old website focused on web design, which is only a part of what we do. We also develop more sophisticated solutions such as WordPress plugins, custom web applications, and of course, mobile apps. So more information on these areas has now been added.
In summary
We’d love to hear what you think of the new design, and we hope this provides some insights into what we do, and why. Why not head on over to the contact page and send some feedback!
