WordPress websites the right way

So you already have a WordPress website but it has a few “issues”.

Perhaps when the site was built, corners were cut. You’re finding it really hard to update, and it’s since become apparent that the “pipework” is shoddy to say the least.

We encounter this time and time again. WordPress is a fantastic platform, and we highly recommend it, but because the market is so saturated, it’s hard to find genuine experts that know what they’re doing.

Below are just some of the ways we can help.

I can’t update it!

You look at the dashboard, and you’re overwhelmed at the amount of options, and don’t know where to start. You want to change some wording on the home page, but have no idea where to look.

Sadly this happens all too often. Too many WordPress sites are hastily thrown together with an off the shelf theme and a mass of plugins, some of which may even work.

Look, it doesn’t have to be this way. If this is you, then talk to us and we’ll sort it out properly, and you won’t lose your content either.

You can’t find the right plugin

At the time of writing, WordPress has nearly 50,000 free plugins available in its plugin repository. This is one of the reasons for WordPress’ tremendous success. Whatever your requirement, there’s very likely a plugin already available to handle it.This works great, except when it doesn’t.

Either the plugin doesn’t present the information in the right way, is awkward to use, or perhaps comes with a bunch of extra functionality to support its many thousands of users, but in your case is just plain confusing. Worse still, the plugin author is no longer around to support it!

Talk to us about what you need, and if we can’t find a suitable plugin, then we’ll build one for you.

You want to make some changes to your theme

You already have a theme and it works great, but it just needs some tweaks. Perhaps the colours need changing. Maybe it’s not mobile friendly, or some elements need lining up or rearranging on a page? Without going the whole hog and building a new custom theme, we’ll take care of the necessary changes to your existing theme.

We would just say that if the changes are too drastic, then we may recommend a new theme anyway. It really depends on what you need to have done, but we’ll advise you either way before we start any work.

Custom WordPress websites

A huge theme industry has grown around WordPress. Many excellent themes have been produced from over thousands of hours of development, which are then sold for less than £100. This makes sense for the theme authors, because the themes are sold to thousands of customers. Once again, this works great, except for when it doesn’t.

Because these themes are designed to support a huge range of requirements for many different users, there’s a price to pay. It’s hard to make any changes to your website, and it can end up looking like all the other websites using the same theme. Also, because of their size, they can slow your site down with all the files and assets (images, videos etc.) necessary to support every website that’s running it.

In this case, a custom WordPress site makes much more sense. Because the website is developed to achieve your specific goals, it’s much lighter on your web server, so pages will load faster. It will also be easy to manage and update as your business evolves.

Finally, WordPress is designed so that your content is kept separate from your theme. So if you want a redesign in the future, it will work with all your existing content.
